Equity Group’s Profit Jumps 32% to KSh45.5 Billion as Regional Business Drives H1 2026 Growth
Equity Group Holdings has reported a strong first-half performance for 2026, with profit after tax rising 32% to KSh45.5 billion from KSh34.6 billion in the same period last year.

The performance was supported by growth across the Group’s balance sheet, stronger contributions from its regional businesses, rising non-funded income and continued improvements in asset quality and operational efficiency.
Profit before tax increased by 39% to KSh57.8 billion, compared with KSh41.5 billion in the first half of 2025. The Group said its performance exceeded management guidance in nearly all parameters.
Balance Sheet Expands to KSh2.16 Trillion
Equity Group’s balance sheet expanded by 20% during the period to KSh2.16 trillion, up from KSh1.80 trillion a year earlier.
Customer deposits increased by 21% to KSh1.59 trillion from KSh1.31 trillion, while the Group’s net loan book grew 19% to KSh981 billion from KSh825 billion.
The growth points to continued customer confidence and stronger credit demand across the markets in which the Group operates.
Shareholders’ funds also strengthened, increasing by 27% to KSh350 billion, reinforcing the Group’s capital position.
The loan growth was spread across Corporate, Retail, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Public Sector Institutions segments, with Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda making some of the strongest contributions.
Regional Operations Become an Increasingly Important Growth Engine
The Group’s regional subsidiaries continued to expand their contribution to overall performance.
Regional subsidiaries now account for 42% of Group banking profitability and 47% of banking revenue. They also represent 51% of Group deposits, 54% of Group loans and 52% of Group banking assets.
The Democratic Republic of Congo remained one of the Group’s largest regional contributors. Equity BCDC increased profit after tax by 30% to KSh11.8 billion.
Equity Tanzania delivered one of the strongest growth rates in the Group, with profit after tax rising 82% to KSh2.0 billion.
In Rwanda, profit after tax increased 12% to KSh2.9 billion.
The results underline the growing importance of Equity’s regional expansion strategy as the Group seeks to build a broader pan-African financial services business.
